Scented Geranium types suitable as house plants

(October 15, 2015)

Which Scented Geranium types are suitable to grow as house plants?
a question that we are often asked
see below for suggestions

All scented pelargonium types may be grown in pots or containers and kept inside the home, however, there are some that become very large at maturity which renders them unsuitable - unless you live in a huge mansion.  If any plant is genetically going to be large as it ages it stands to reason that it would not do well if kept in a small plant pot - it is bound to suffer and may well die.  I often compare this with keeping an adult in a babygrow suit - if you see what I mean.  The solution is to select types that will be fine as house plants as they age; scented geraniums will live for many years with the correct care and conditions.  Needless to say but I will, you will still need to look after each individual plant and ensure that they have correct feeding, water, drainage etc.
With your continuing TLC the plants will provide you with lots of enjoyment and pleasure.  All scented geranium types may be grown outside during frost free months, compact, medium and large sized types.

Below are our suggestions of scented pelargonium types to grow as a house plant.  Note that some will still need to be potted in to a reasonable sized pot or container and you should be able to work this out by reading through the main details page of each type.
Note that not one single type will do well if left to languish unattended in a 9cm pot!

When making your personal selection please read through the full characteristics of each type.  We do not choose types for individual Customers being as everyone has their own preferences to scents and the growing style of scented geranium; part of the enjoyment is for you to select - call this a bonding exercise.  The problem you will find is that all of the types are amazing and you'll be hard pressed to choose!  Types are listed alphabetically - we recommend our Jumbo Starter size, especially if you are new to growing plants.
